State by state listing of New Year's shows

Charlie Hunter (Oakland, CA) - For jazz fans, Yoshi's will be the place to be. Hunter provides a great soundtrack for the last night of the millennium, combining virtuosity, funkiness, and originality in his playing and arrangements. BUY TICKETS

The Kingsmen (Charleston, WV) - Okay, so not every town can get their hands on a huge jam band or a major star for this special night, but Charleston doesn't have it so bad: throw in three or four renditions of "Louie, Louie" and lots of balloons, and you've got yourself a party!

Kittie (Las Vegas, NV) - A show for those who would rather be smashing bottles of champagne than drinking from them. Appearing with Kottonmouth Kings and others.

Kool and the Gang (Las Vegas, NV) - Offering you the chance to win big at gambling and then head out to "celebrate" with the masters of modern funk.

Lake Trout (Baltimore, MD) - Hippies, ravers, and everyone in between will be bobbing their heads and dreads to the improvisational drum & bass of Lake Trout.

Phil Lesh and Friends (Oakland) - One half of the dueling Grateful Deads.

Maze featuring Frankie Beverly (Oakland, CA) - It doesn't get more old school than the furry Kangol-wearing Frankie Beverly and his long time instrumentalists Maze. Oakland will be throwing down to renditions of their classic hit "Before I Let Go" as they let go their worries on the eve of the real millennium.

Van Morrison (Las Vegas, NV) - You never know what kind of a performance you'll get from Ireland's most famous singer, but chances are good he'll provide enough high points to make the whole evening worthwhile.

Ted Nugent (Auburn Hills, MI) - The Nuge gives the neo-conservative hunters of the world a place to hang out and say goodbye to the year 2000. Expect plenty of bows and arrows, rants against immigrants, and good ol' fashioned Michigan-style rock 'n' roll.

The Other Ones (Oakland, CA) - The second of the dueling Grateful Deads, though this one comes with George Clinton and P-Funk and Steve Kimock as support.

Otis Day and the Knights (San Antonio, TX) - The perfect show for anyone who wants to turn New Year's into an Animal House toga party.

Maceo Parker (New York, NY) - We know where the funkiest people in the Big Apple will be on December 31st. While most of the world freezes their butts off in Times Square watching the ball drop, a large but intimate crowd will be in Irving Plaza, enjoying the warmth of Planet Groove with Mr. Parker and his rock solid band.

Robert Walter's 20th Congress (San Francisco, CA) - Ex-Greyboy All-Star Robert Walter and his group of West Coast funk refugees return to perform in front of their hometown crowd. Glasses will be tipped to this kingfish of keyboardists all night, as he lights up San Francisco.

Schleigho (Erie, PA) - These jazz experimentalists are smack in the middle of a yearlong tour that ends in the summer of 2001. Regulars at The Knitting Factory and Wetlands in NYC, this quartet will be making many local folk in Erie very happy this New Year.

Patti Smith (New York, NY) - Patti Smith is still the punk goddess, bringing her poetic noise for the next millennium. BUY TICKETS

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (Nashville, TN) - For those who can't get enough of the punk funk rawk, JSBE will provide enough fireworks to keep you up until dawn.

String Cheese Incident (Portland, OR) - This New Year's Eve show is simply the end of a three-night weekend stand in Portland for these bluegrass jam-band favorites. S.C.I. is calling on some well-known opening acts to make the weekend more of a special event: Steel Pulse for the Friday night show, Ozomatli on Saturday, and Keller Williams on New Year's Eve itself. Click here to see Official Press Release.

Third Eye Blind (Chicago, IL) - Third Eye Blind will be joined by a diverse line-up: opening for the pop rockers will be the Jayhawks and former Veruca Salt leader (and native Chicagoan) Nina Gordon.

Vertical Horizon (Celebration, FL) - One of today's hottest (and most non-threatening bands) rings in the New Year in the country's most pre-fabricated Disney community.

Barry White (Virginia Beach, VA) - We'd like to hear Barry White wrap his deep, sultry voice around "Auld Lang Syne." Well, that and about twenty of his greatest hits.

Widespread Panic (Atlanta, GA) - The biggest Georgia-based jam band around brings it all back home for this end-of-the-year bash in Hotlanta. Expect a big turn out of rabid Spread Heads from all over the Southeast for this one.

John Zorn (New York, NY) - Zorn leads his avant-garde posse through his usual cutting edge sounds at the highly intimate Tonic. A perfect way for the ultra-cool to end 2000.

Hope these selections helped you narrow your plans a bit further. We'll add more shows to the list as they are announced.
