Anti-Convention to Feature Soulive, Easy Star All-Stars, Others in Political Protest
Buzz Date: June 25, 2004

by Skandar Rassas at Musictoday

Whether one looks at it as a politically-charged music event or a musically-charged political event, Live Music Research's Anti-Convention will cover both. The two-day event both protests this election year's Republican National Convention and offers an eclectic, energetic lineup of grassroots artists. Taking place August 26 and 27 at Warsaw in Brooklyn, New York, the event serves as a platform to voice dissent to the Bush administration. Performing the first day will be reggae outfit John Brown's Body, the Benevento/Russo Duo, and Trumystic, while the second day features soul-jazz trio Soulive, plus the Easy Star All-Stars and solo guitarist Kaki King. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the anti-war organization Not In Our Name. For tickets and more information, visit the Live Music Research Web site.

Purveyors of the most notable rock/reggae fusion in recent memory, the Easy Star All-Stars take their unique rendition of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon (nicknamed "Dub Side") to new audiences both in the U.S. and abroad this summer. The reggae conglomerate performs June 25 at the New England Reggae Festival in Charlestown, Rhode Island, before traveling to Pink Floyd's home country for four shows. The final UK stop takes place August 1 in front of more than 26,000 at the already sold-out Big Chill Festival in Herefordshire, England. Making their first ever Cali appearance, the All-Stars will perform August 8 at Reggae on the River in Humboldt County alongside Steel Pulse and Bounty Killer, amongst many others. The Easy Star All-Stars end the summer outing at the Anti-Convention.
