Dead Prez "They Schools" Video" Dead Prez Press Release Dead Prez Tour Dates
Whatever you want to call them-militant, revolutionary, conscious, activist, or sensationalist-Dead Prez is turning heads. Since the release of the album Let's Get Free earlier this year, which received a stellar 4-star review from Rolling Stone, members Stic Man and M1 have been busy touring, stirring up the public, and living up to the unfair tag "the next Public Enemy." Dead Prez was involved earlier this year in Mos Def's highly praised project assailing police brutality, and have proven themselves as activists by becoming involved in numerous charity events. As with other controversial releases in hip-hop history, such as Public Enemy's first four albums and Ice-T's "Cop Killer," many in the media unfairly jump to conclusions about the group, focusing on the more violent lyrics the group utilizes, while ignoring uplifting tracks like "Be Healthy," "Discipline," and "Happiness." All those songs form a blueprint for the advancement of African-Americans, while Dead Prez still assails the system that keeps them in poverty.

For Dead Prez, music is merely an instrument for change. Stic Man and M1 take pride in their aggressive stance against an establishment that has been the source of civil strife for them and their community. In order to find a balance between impoverished urban angst and the opportunities they have created for themselves to advance out of that environment, the group pens lyrics advocating self-preservation and spiritual growth. The duo tirelessly takes its stage show on the road in an effort to spread its message to as many people as possible, and to bring awareness to issues affecting our population every day.

Recently, in this heated atmosphere of the presidential campaign season, Dead Prez released its second video, "They Schools," which sounds off on education, one of the key issues on the nation's mind. "They Schools" has been banned from play on national video outlets (such as MTV and BET), because of its incendiary content. musictoday.com is making this video available for download, so that you, the fans, can see it and make up your own mind as to how you feel about this strong material.
